WHEREAS, Ross William Hirschfeld, son of Gerald and Leyla Hirschfeld, and a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 66 attained the rank of Eagle Scout and was honored at a ceremony on Monday, March 19, 2007 at the Sheraden Community Presbyterian Church; and
WHEREAS, Ross's Eagle Scout project consisted of planting 250 trees of various species along Chartiers Creek in Crafton Borough alondgside an open hiking trail adjacent to the Crafton Borough Maintenance Garages; and
WHEREAS, With the trees from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Ross created a tree line in order to provide separation from a hiking trail and maintenance garages that will now provide adequate shade on the trails for hikers; and
WHEREAS, Along with beautifying the area, the planted trees form a riparian zone, which is a sector along a riverbed that filters rainwater going into the creek and keeps the entering water clean, and as the tree line grows it will also connect two trails separated by the Borough maintenance properties; and
WHEREAS, Ross displayed outstanding leadership skills by organizing several volunteers and coordinating the project with the Crafton Shade Tree Commission and other borough officials in conjunction with Arbor Day; and
WHEREAS, only those young men who have been outstanding in scouting, have the esteem of their community and fellow scouts, and serve in a position of responsibility and leadership obtain Eagle Scout status, the highest rank in the boy scouts.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby congratulates Eagle Scout Ross William Hirschfeld on his recent achievement and commends him for his accomplishments.
