WHEREAS, besides a child’s parents, the biggest influence can be made by their “Coach”, who teaches lifelong lessons, important values and character building experiences to shape oneself ; and,

WHEREAS, one such person is Penn Hills High School Coach Charlie Buttgereit, a role model, mentor and example of dedication and commitment; and,
WHEREAS, Charlie Buttgereit graduated from Penn Hills High School, the University of Pittsburgh for undergrad and a Master’s Degree. He has taught Health and Physical Education at Penn Hills High School for 35 years. He and wife, Beth are parents to two children, Becky and Charlie; and,
WHEREAS, in addition, Coach Charlie Buttgereit has coached 9th Grade Boys Basketball and coached Golf for 35 years at Penn Hills High School. These roles over many years highlight Coach Buttgereit’s extraordinary pledge to prepare good citizens and his commitment to role model and teach young men and students athletes.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Coach Charlie Buttgereit for his 35 years of commitment and dedication to the students he has taught and the athletes he has coached at Penn Hills High School ; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, March 1, 2021, to be “COACH CHARLIE BUTTGEREIT DAY ” in the City of Pittsburgh.
