WHEREAS, Dino Abbott, Fire Captain at Engine 24 on the South Side, was born on November 8, 1957; and,

WHEREAS, Captain Abbott is married to the love of his life, Julia Abbott, with whom he has three children, Lauren, Justin, and Tyler; and,
WHEREAS, Captain Abbott began his career with the City of Pittsburgh in the 70s, working in the City Controller's Office and the County Controller's Office; and,
WHEREAS, Captain Abbott's father, Captain Bob Abbott, served as a City of Pittsburgh firefighter for over 30 years and was a deeply influential figure in Captain Abbott's life; and,
WHEREAS, Captain Abbott embarked upon a career as a firefighter in June 1986 and since then, has served the neighborhoods of Brookline, Lawrenceville, Bloomfield, Allentown, Beechview, Hays, and most recently, has been with Engine 24 on the South Side since April 2014; and,
WHEREAS, on March 25, 2002, he earned the rank of Fire Lieutenant and on April 5, 2004, earned the rank of Fire Captain; and,
WHEREAS, Captain Abbott is a hero who has responded to countless uncertain and dangerous situations at the risk of his personal safety to protect individuals and families from the threat of destructive fire; and
WHEREAS, Captain Abbott has taken on a mentorship role to younger firefighters; and,
WHEREAS, Captain Abbott exemplifies the spirit of a volunteer, having made it his passion to serve all populations; and
WHEREAS, Captain Abbott was a volunteer with the Allentown Meals on Wheels for over 10 years, served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Basil Church, and bought a garage on Mary Street to house and rehome cats; and,
WHEREAS, Captain Abbott is retiring on November 29, 2022 after 36 years of distinguished service; and,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Pittsburgh does hereby thank Captain Dino Abbott for his 36 years of firefighting service to Pittsburgh and strongly commends Captain Abbott for the courage, professionalism, and passion he has ex...
