Title: WHEREAS, The Society for The Preservation of The Duquesne Heights Incline will be celebrating the 130th Anniversary of the opening of The Duquesne Incline on Sunday, May 20, 2007; and WHEREAS, The Duquesne Incline first opened for business on May 20, 1877; and WHEREAS, The Duquesne Incline was forced to close on November 21, 1962 due to low ridership and monetary loss; and WHEREAS, a group of concerned citizens with The Duquesne Heights Civic Association met to discuss a possible reopening since the Incline provided vital transportation from Mt. Washington and Duquesne Heights to downtown and other mass transit routes; and WHEREAS, a fundraising campaign started in early 1963 was so successful that The Duquesne Incline was reopened on July 1, 1963; and WHEREAS, on November 1, 1963, The Duquesne Heights Civic Association created The Society for The Preservation of The Duquesne Heights Incline; and WHEREAS, on December 18, 2006, The Society had its 20 millionth rid...

WHEREAS, The Duquesne Incline first opened for business on May 20, 1877; and
 
WHEREAS, The Duquesne Incline was forced to close on November 21, 1962 due to low ridership and monetary loss; and

WHEREAS, on May 20, 2007 The Society celebrates 130 years of providing transportation while offering a spectacular view of the City of Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, David Miller, President of the Society, and Ruth Miller, Treasurer of the Society, are both founding members of The Society and with Board Members Robert Fierst, Clyde Brunk, David Vater, Jim Presken, Patricia Smith, Lucy Simeoni, Michael Sydlik and Norman Samways they all work to ensure the longevity of The Duquesne Incline.  
 
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh congratulates and thanks all the former and current members of The Society and the Board Members for their hard work and dedication to keep The Duquesne Incline going for 130 years.
