Title
Ordinance amending Article V, Chapter 151, Council, of the City Code by adding Section 151.10 to construe the provisions of the Home Rule Charter, Article II, Executive Branch, Section 220, Composition of Authority Boards,  regarding appointment of City Council members to municipal authority boards.
 
Body
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:
 
Section 1.  Whereas, the Home Rule Charter, Section 220 provides that a member of City Council shall serve on each authority board; and
 
Whereas, from time to time an issue has arisen whether a Council member whose term as a member of Council has ended should relinquish his or her seat where the appointed term on an authority exceeds the Council member's term or office (and is not otherwise terminable by the Mayor); and
 
Whereas, this Council has determined that the best interest of the City is served where the seat designated for a member of Council be filled by a current member of Council
 
Article V, Chapter 151 of the Pittsburgh Code is Ordinances is amended to add a section 151.10 that provides as follows:
 
Article V, Chapter 151.10
 
(a) Council members appointed by the Mayor to authority boards pursuant to Chapter 220 shall be deemed to serve ex officio, i.e. by virtue of their office.
 
(b) Upon termination of office by any Council member for whatever reason, the appointment to an authority board shall also be deemed terminated and the Council member shall take such steps as may be necessary to relinquish his or her seat on an authority board.
