WHEREAS, Saturday, November 29th is celebrated nationwide as Small Business Saturday; and,
WHEREAS, small retailers make between 10 and 20% of their entire annual profits during the holiday shopping season; and,
WHEREAS, Small Business Saturday is a campaign to raise awareness about the important role small retailers play in our local economy; and,
WHEREAS, small businesses in Pittsburgh are vital to the success, longevity, and vibrancy of our neighborhoods thanks to their locally tailored services, positive economic impact, and the employment opportunities they provide to residents; and,
WHEREAS, unique innovative minds, entrepreneurial spirits, and committed community members are what make the relationship between small businesses and the neighborhood they inhabit work in Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, small business directly depend on patronage from loyal customers; by spending just a $1 more at a local business in Pittsburgh, the region's economy would stand to gain nearly $1,410,000 in benefits.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim the week of November 24, 2014, as "Small Business Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.
