WHEREAS, the Bishop Canevin Crusaders Baseball team won the WPIAL Class A title game on Tuesday, May 28 2024, after the Crusaders defeated Eden Christian Academy 10-3 at Wild Things Park in Washington Pennsylvania; and,

WHEREAS, Bishop Canevin, the No. 4 seed for the playoffs, beat No. 2 seed Eden Christian (20-6) to win their fourth WPIAL Championship and their first back-to-back championship in school history; and,
WHEREAS, this year’s veteran team started five seniors, four juniors, and one freshman in the title game. The Crusaders ended their season in the PIAA playoffs and finished with a 15-5 record; and,
WHEREAS, the 2024 Crusader Baseball team, in alphabetical order, include:
Leonard Aiken, Kellen Andruscik, Jamin Brock, Aiden Didion, Aaryn Edwards, Layne Gerba, Mason Glover, Lucas Golembiewski, Aiden Guzel, James Healey, Joe Hurley, Jalen Jackson, Laron Livsey, Jackson Maddix, Tyler Maddix, Julian Myron, Kole Olszewski, Vincent Ritchey, Dominic Varley, and Quentin White; and,
WHEREAS, Head Coach Bill Varley lead the team with Assistant Coaches Craig Sonson, Bob Gorny and Ryan Varley. The Crusaders also credit Athletic Trainer Lea Richir for their successful season; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and congratulate the Bishop Canevin Crusaders Baseball Team for their WPIAL Championship and successful season; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Tuesday, July 16, 2024 to be “Crusaders Baseball Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
