Title: WHEREAS, the health and vitality of the City of Pittsburgh is reflected in the participation of those activities that further the strength of the community; and,

WHEREAS, the health and vitality of the City of Pittsburgh is reflected in the participation of those activities that further the strength of the community; and,

WHEREAS, Gloria Novak, a lifelong resident of Pittsburgh's Northside, daughter of Thelma and Victor Novak, grew up in the East Street Valley and now resides in Observatory Hill; and,

WHEREAS, Gloria Novak, a graduate of Thiel College, earned a master's degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh, began working for the Controller's Office as a performance auditor in 1984; and,

WHEREAS, Gloria Novak has taken on numerous auditing roles and responsibilities becoming the Controller's Performance Audit Manager, ensuring City goals and objectives are being met, as well as making constructive recommendations for improvement; and,

WHEREAS, Gloria Novak has worked for City Controllers John McGrady, Thomas Flaherty, Michael Lamb, and Rachael Heisler to provide the independent and objective oversight that protect city dollars from waste, fraud and abuse; and,

WHEREAS, following in her mother's political activism, Gloria Novak is a 26th Ward Democratic Committee member, former ward secretary, former State Democratic Committee member and former president of the State Committee's Woman's Caucus; and,

WHEREAS, a person's heritage and neighborhood can become a very important part of who they are, which is notable in Gloria's dedication to preserve the charm of Northside neighborhoods, by helping create the neighborhood group Observatory Hill Inc., serving on the North Side Leadership Council's Real Estate Committee and singing with the St. Boniface/Holy Wisdom/Christ Our Savior parish choir;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh and the City Controller do hereby recognize and honor Gloria Novak for her 40 years of work and dedicated contributions with wishes for a long and happy retirement filled with good health, friends, family, and laughter;
