WHEREAS, Peoples Oakland Inc. is a non-profit organization founded in 1974 to address the crisis posed by the deinstitutionalization of mental health care; and,

WHEREAS, Peoples Oakland Inc. has evolved over the past 50 years to provide comprehensive, member-driven recovery services to individuals living with chronic, severe mental health concerns; and,
WHEREAS, Peoples Oakland Inc. continues to build an organization that, with partners and through networks, will make this region a leader in supporting people who are recovering from serious and persistent mental illness; and,
WHEREAS, on April 4th, 2024, Peoples Oakland Inc. celebrates fifty years of incorporation; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, acknowledges the remarkable contributions of Peoples Oakland Inc. and its members, for cultivating a culture of love, and creating a healing environment for our community members engaged in mental health recovery to find a place of belonging and connection.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, April 4, 2024, to be “Peoples Oakland Inc. Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
