WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire is dedicated to the safety of life and property; and,

WHEREAS, on Monday, July 1, 2024, at approximately 10:45 PM, the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire was dispatched to 18 Leslie Street in Ingram for a residential structure fire; and,

 

WHEREAS, the resident of the home reported that her son was trapped on the third floor, which emitted very heavy smoke. Through a cell phone call to the mother from her son, the Battalion Chief Becker was able to get the child to bang on the wall so that firefighters could locate him. A Crew Member from Engine Company 30 located the child in a small storage closet area on the third floor; and,

 

WHEREAS, Engine and Truck 30, Engine 31, Engine 37 and Truck 32, were all on scene involved in the search and extraction of the 11-year-old boy; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire their bravery and self-sacrificing commitment to the communities they serve; and, 

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Tuesday, July 9, 2024 to be “Pittsburgh Fire Bureau Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
