WHEREAS, on Friday, June 22 from 5pm to 9pm, the 8th annual Jazz on the Hillside fundraising concert will take place on the lawn of the Schenley Heights Community Development Program multi-purpose center, an event that honors and highlights Pittsburgh's world-renown, rich jazz legacy; and,
WHEREAS, Jazz on the Hillside celebrates the mission of the SHCDP and Pittsburgh's musical legacy with an evening of entertainment that will feature the music of Jeff Montgomery, Howie Alexander, Tubby Daniels, Southern Comfort, and several other local jazz artists, with Pittsburgh Jazz Society founder Tony Mowod acting as the event's emcee; and,
WHEREAS, the SHCDP was established in 1995 to provide an alternative to crime and other socially destructive activities that often plague inner-city, low-income communities, with a suite of programs catered to Pittsburgh's urban youth that promote academic and life success, as well as behavioral and physical wellness; and,
WHEREAS, proceeds from Jazz on the Hillside will go towards the support of SHCDP programs that include the After School Tutorial Enrichment Program, the Summer Enrichment Program, the NADIA Track and Field Program, Project LEARNS at Weil Elementary School, parent support groups, and early childhood classrooms; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 22, 2012 to be "Jazz on the Hillside Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
