Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, THAT the Council of the City of Pittsburgh joins the community in recognizing the 1st Annual Jazz on the River Scholarship Drive Day of the Roger L. Humphries, Sr. Music Scholarship Fund featuring yours truly, Roger Humphries' Big Band, RH Factor, Tim Stevens, Lisa Ferraro, Fred Pugh and David Moore with wishes for generous donations as a result of this occasion.

WHEREAS, June 6, 2004 is declared the 1st Annual Jazz on the River Scholarship Drive Day of the Roger L. Humphries, Sr. Music Scholarship Fund in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, The world-renowned jazz drummer, Roger L. Humphries, Sr. is establishing the music scholarship because in his words, "The number of talented young people wishing to pursue music as a profession has not diminished, what is changing is the financial support enabling them to make their dream a reality."

WHEREAS, The Roger L. Humphries, Sr. Music Scholarship Fund will award scholarships through an application process open to graduating high school seniors in Pittsburgh who plan to major in music at an accredited institution of higher learning.

WHEREAS, Founder of the city's premier jazz groups RH Factor in 1972 and the Humphries' Big Band in 1996, Roger L. Humphreis, Sr. is also adjunct Professor of Percussion/Jazz Studies at Duquesne University's Mary Pappert School of Music and teacher at the city's School for the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA).

WHEREAS, Roger L. Humphries, Sr. is already a jazz icon with a 50-year music love affair, he is rated as one of the most exciting percussionists in the business, having influenced the careers of a number of fellow musicians and students through participation as a master clinician at the University of Pittsburgh Jazz Clinics, Slippery Rock University Summer Jazz workshop and Mellon Jazz Masters Class, and has played the rhythmic beat for such greats as Ray Charles, Horace Silver, Richard "Groove" Holmes, Stanley Turntine, James Moody and many others.

WHEREAS, The time is right to pass on and sustain the joy of studying music through the Roger L. Humphries, Sr. Music Scholarship Fund.
