WHEREAS; established in 1880, Three Rivers Youth provides a spectrum of educational, residential, support services and in-home programs to youth and families who are victims of physical and sexual abuse, neglect, abandonment, school failure, homelessness and drug and alcohol abuse; and
WHEREAS, Three Rivers Youth developed from a 1970 merger of two separate agencies, the Termon Avenue Home, an orphanage founded in 1880, and the Girl's Service Club, a residential home for "wayward girls" founded in 1924; and
WHEREAS, from 1970 through 1982, Three Rivers Youth developed a network of eight community-based group homes: residential treatment programs for adolescents located in neighborhood residences, each with a team of professional counselors, a full-time supervisor and a social worker, with each home using health, educational, recreational, social and religious resources available in the community; and
WHEREAS, Three Rivers Youth continues to expand its programs and shelters, today servicing over 3300 youth and their families with five residential group homes, two shelter programs, a runaway and homeless outreach center, a transitional living program and in-home family counseling; and
WHEREAS, a gala dinner will be held on Friday, April 22, 2005 at the Westin Convention Center Hotel to celebrate Three Rivers Youth 125th Anniversary and to honor four distinguished individuals for their significant achievements that benefit youth and families, The Honorable Max Baer, Mr. James E. Rohr, Dr. Marcia Sturdivant, and Mrs. Rachel Washington.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh salutes the Honorable Max Baer, Mr. James E. Rohr, Dr. Marcia Sturdivant, and Mrs. Rachel Washington and Three Rivers Youth, for its milestone 125th Anniversary and for serving the needs of so many, so well.
