WHEREAS, cheerleading is a sport that not only takes countless hours of practice and work, but one that lifts the spirits of others and encourages everyone to be a part of something together; and,
WHEREAS, the varsity cheerleading squad of Bishop Leonard Saint Mary of the Mount Academy (BLSMMA), made up of girls from the 5th through 8th grade, took first place in the Pittsburgh Diocesan Cheerleading Competition for the Large Varsity Non-mount Squads; and,
WHEREAS, this is the 2nd consecutive year that BLSMMA cheerleading squad taking first place in the Diocesan competition, beating Saint Thomas More both years; and,
WHEREAS, the BLSMMA varsity cheerleading squad also took first place this year at Saint Therese Munhall competition; and,
WHEREAS, with the final year of the existence of the Bishop Leonard Saint Mary of the Mount Academy, it is of great importance to acknowledge the accomplishments of the BLSMMA cheerleading squad, as they are ending their season on the best note possible with two first place victories; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the varsity cheerleading squad of Bishop Leonard Saint Mary of the Mount Academy for all their hard work, dedication, and tremendous efforts in creating an overall outstanding season and bringing a positive light for not only the school, but for all those involved in the parish community, alumni, and residents from the surrounding community; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, May 12, 2012, to be "BLSMMA Varsity Cheerleading Squad Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
