WHEREAS, this year marks the 250th Birthday of the military services that gained our independence and has been defending our country for the past 250 years; and,
WHEREAS, the U.S. Army, established on June 14, 1775, was the first military branch, predating the nation itself, formed to defend the colonies against British forces. Later that year, on October 13, the Continental Congress authorized the creation of the Navy, officially marking its founding. Shortly after, on November 10, the U.S. Marine Corps was established. All three military branches trace their origins to the Revolutionary War; and,
WHEREAS, from humble beginnings, all three branches of military have grown into global forces, defending freedom, projecting power, and ensuring our national security; and,
WHEREAS, the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps unite the nation in honoring their shared legacy; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and salute the men and women of all backgrounds who have defended America and the world for 250 years, inspiring our youth and reminding us what unites us; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, June 28, 2025 as a day we honor the 250th Birthdays of the Army, Navy and Marine Corps and their service to our Country.
