Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh des hereby Congratulate Lincoln Place Presbyterian Church on 100 years of Service to the community of Lincoln Place and the residents of the City of Pittsburgh; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday March 6, 2005 to be "Lincoln Place Presbyterian Church Day" here in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, it was in the early 1900's around Christmas time, that the idea of a church in the Lincoln Place area was laid out to form a Presbyterian Mission. Thomas Beggs, John Stevens, and Joseph Marks arranged with Pittsburgh Presbytery to conduct services in the homes of residents; and,

WHEREAS, In November, 1903, the Mission purchased three lots and began a campaign to raise funds to erect a church building. The Mission officially became the Lincoln Place Presbyterian Church on March 2, 1905 with thirty-three neighborhood residents in attendance; and,

WHEREAS, not much is known of the first two pastors, the first was Rev. David P Macquarrie who also served Apple Avenue Presbyterian Church, remained there a year followed by a series of seven stated supply ministers between 1906 and 1921. Acting on Pittsburgh Presbytery's suggestion Rev. H.E. Snyder of Lebanon Church was called for half of his time he served the church for four or five years; and,

WHEREAS, After Rev. Snyder's departure Lincoln Place Presbyterian and the Lebanon Presbyterian Church shared pastors until 1946, when the church decided that it was ready to support a full-time pastor and called upon the Rev. Edward Holborow who remained with the church for three years until the church called upon the Rev. James Arthur Rowan; and,

WHEREAS, the most significant of actions, occurred in 1953 when plans were drawn up for a proposed new church building. On Easter Sunday, 1957, ground was broken for a new two-story brick educational building, three years later the original church building was razed to make way for a new sanctuary; and,

WHEREAS, the new sanctuary was dedicated on April 28, 1963 with a special morning service which Dr. John Bibby, Executive Presbyter of Pittsburgh Presbytery preached the dedicatory sermon.
