Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Westwood Oakwood Athletic Association (WOAA) for continuous service to the children of the City of Pittsburgh and helping to improve their quality of life; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 15, 2012, to be “Westwood Oakwood Athletic Association Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Westwood Oakwood Athletic Association (WOAA) began serving the community of Westwood and its surrounding city neighborhoods in the early nineteen sixties when they were known as the Westwood Recreation Association providing baseball instruction to boys in the community and about a decade later expanded to girls softball and changed its name to Westwood Oakwood Athletic Association to reflect the idea that the association served more than one city area; and,
 
WHEREAS, surrounding neighborhoods without athletic associations such as East Carnegie, Ridgemont, West End and Crafton Heights have sent many children to enjoy the services of the Westwood Oakwood Athletic Association; and,
 
WHEREAS, the WOAA is ran by volunteers who dedicate their time and effort into making each child's experience not only enjoyable, but one that he or she will remember for the rest of his or her life; and,    
 
WHEREAS, the WOAA takes pride in the valuable life lessons taught to each child such as sportsmanship, integrity, confidence, responsibility, respect, and perseverance; and,
 
WHEREAS, the WOAA is currently serving the needs of over four hundred households throughout six city neighborhoods with over ten teams in both baseball and softball; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Westwood Oakwood Athletic Association (WOAA) for continuous service to the children of the City of Pittsburgh and helping to improve their quality of life; and,
