Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 17th, 2012, to be Dave's Music Mine Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Founded in Oakland in 1979 and formerly known as Record Graveyard, Garbage Records, Jerry's Records, which was relocated to Squirrel Hill and Jerry's Music Market, this music and movie mom and pop shop was purchased by a young couple, David and Michelle Panasiuk in 1994, with the help of their family, Patricia Panasiuk, Bernardine Swiech and Joseph Panasiuk and renamed Dave's Music Mine; and,

WHEREAS, built as a small business with the principal of providing New and Used Compact Discs, Records, Cassettes, DVDs and VHS movies at discounted, affordable prices to the Pittsburgh area, Dave's Music Mine relocated in 1999 to a new storefront on 1210 East Carson Street in Pittsburgh's historic South Side Flats; and,

WHEREAS, know to local musicians as a landmark for distribution of local artist's recordings, Dave's Music Mine provides a place for Pittsburgh's hard working talent to sell their music, as well as tickets to many local and national concerts and events at discounted prices; and,

WHEREAS, multiple celebrities have visited the store such as Rock Legends Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin, Ian Astbury of the Cult, film stars Brad Renfro and Giovanni Ribisi, as well as Perry Ferrell of Jane's Addiction, who busked one afternoon in front of the store, and local mash-up superstar Girl Talk, who earlier this month filmed part of his latest video at Dave's Music Mine; and,

WHEREAS, the proprietors David and Michelle Panasiuk have continued to support their community through volunteering with non-profit organizations including Venture Outdoors, Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, Oakcliffe Housing Club, Oakland Planning and Development Corporation, Community Human Services and several other Pittsburgh groups earning them the 2011 Jefferson Award for Public Service, a prestigious national recognition system honoring community and public service in America; and,
