WHEREAS, on November 21, 1981 a musical renaissance took place at Carnegie Music Hall with the inaugural concert of the River City Brass Band; and,
WHEREAS, Conductor Robert Bernat, determined to bring about the revival of the American brass band, assembled an orchestra with faculty and students from Carnegie Mellon and Duquesne Universities, presenting a repertoire of music from Big Band Swing to traditional marches; and
WHEREAS, over the years, the River City Brass Band has performed throughout the Unites States and Australia, appeared on the Today Show, produced original compositions and released 15 recordings; and
WHEREAS, as part of its mission, the Band serves as a resource for music education programs, provides a Student Free Ticket Program, introducing more than 6,000 students annually to classical music; and
WHEREAS, today under the baton of Conductor and Music Director Denis Colwell, the band is the most active professional concert band in the United States, with 49 performances in seven different venues in Western Pennsylvania along with 60 touring performances a season.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby CONGRATULATES the RIVER CITY BRASS BAND on 25 years of musical enjoyment and THANKS them for promoting the City of Pittsburgh throughout the Country and World.
