WHEREAS, Peter J. Micheli, Jr., Chief of the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire, will retire on March 21, 2005, after a distinguished forty-one year career; and
WHEREAS, Chief Micheli began his career as a Firefighter on June 15, 1964 first at Engine Company 53 in Spring Hill; and
WHEREAS, Chief Micheli was promoted to Lieutenant on April 4, 1974; to Captain on December 29, 1975; to Battalion Chief on May 5, 1980; to Deputy Chief on December 16, 1991; and to Assistant Chief on September 14, 1992; and
WHEREAS, on August 2, 1999, Peter J. Micheli, Jr. was promoted to Chief of the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire; and
WHEREAS, as he rose through the ranks of the Fire Bureau working at engine and ladder companies throughout the City, as well as at Fire Headquarters, Chief Micheli has received numerous awards and honors for his commitment and leadership in the area of fire safety; and,
WHEREAS, Mayor Tom Murphy stated, "Chief Micheli's leadership of the Fire Bureau has been instrumental in the steady reduction in the number of structure fires in our City, making Pittsburgh one of the safest cities in America in terms of fire prevention."

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh thanks Chief Micheli for his forty-one years of dedicated service to the City of Pittsburgh.
AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh extends best wishes to Chief Peter Micheli for a happy, healthy retirement and hereby declares March 21, 2005 as "Chief Peter J. Micheli Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
