Ordinance amending and supplementing the City of Pittsburgh Code, Title Six (“Conduct”), Article III, Chapter 633 (“Dogs and Cats”) by amending subchapter 633.19 with respect to dogs that have bitten an individual without provocation.

WHEREAS, the City‘s Department of Public Safety seeks to amend and supplement the City of Pittsburgh Code in order to expand the applicability of the provisions of subchapter 633.19 to dogs.

 

 

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:

 

Section 1.                     City of Pittsburgh Code, Title Six (“Conduct”), Article III (“Dogs and Cats”), Chapter 633.19, is hereby amended and supplemented as follows:

 

§ 633.19 - PENALTY AND VIOLATION.

 

(a)  An owner or keeper whose cat or dog, nondomestic feline or dog or hybrid is found to have bitten someone without provocation while running at large shall be fined three hundred fifty dollars ($350.00), plus costs, if it is a first offense. The penalty shall be one thousand dollars ($1,000.00), plus costs, for each subsequent offense, and in default thereof, imprisonment not exceeding seventy-two (72) hours.

(b)  Whoever violates § 633.12 or makes false representations under § 633.12 shall be fined three hundred fifty dollars ($350.00), plus costs, if it is a first offense. The penalty shall be six hundred dollars ($600.00) for each subsequent offense, and in default thereof, imprisonment not exceeding seventy-two (72) hours.

(c)  Whoever violates any other provision of this Chapter shall be fined one hundred dollars ($100.00), plus costs, if it is a first offense. The penalty shall be five hundred dollars ($500.00), plus costs, for each subsequent offense, and in default thereof, imprisonment not exceeding seventy-two (72) hours.
