Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes Maisie Taibbi and her contributions to charitable endeavors; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares July 28, 2009, “Maisie Taibbi Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Maisie Taibbi was named the 2008 Young Humanitarian Award by the Pennsylvanian Association for Gifted Education; and
 
WHEREAS, the award is one that is given to a student who has successfully followed through with a project or service mission that benefits others; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Taibbi worked with the organization No More Victims, a non profit organization which aids young Iraqi war victims seeking medical care in the United States; and
 
WHEREAS, her work with one particular Iraqi boy led to the raising of six hundred dollars for the reconstruction of his home in Fallujah; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Taibbi has been involved with a number of organizations and causes including Animal Friends, the Animal Rescue League Wildlife Center, the Southwestern PA Veterans Center, and Students for Justice at Rogers CAPA Middle School; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Taibbi will be a junior at Taylor Allderdice High School in the upcoming school year.
