Whereas, Pittsburgh, celebrating its 250th birthday, is a city with a rich history of architecture, innovation, and industry; and
Whereas, history connects young people to individuals, events, and ideas that continue to shape our lives today; and
Whereas, the Young Preservationists Association of Pittsburgh, an organization of over 350 members from 19 states, is committed to the participation of young people in the preservation of historic resources; and
Whereas, the Young Preservationists Association of Pittsburgh, whose motto is "Give life to history", recognizes the importance of preservation in community and economic development; and
Whereas, the Young Preservationists will host the Pittsburgh Regional Youth Heritage Festival, a program of interactive workshops, thematic tours, and keynote addresses by President and CEO Bill Strickland of Manchester Bidwell Corporation and Esther Bush, CEO, Urban League of Pittsburgh, on October 11, 2008 at the Senator John Heinz History Center; and
Whereas, the Young Preservationists will also sponsor "Wheeling Through History" pre-festival cycling tours on September 20, 2008 in the North Side, South Side, Strip District, and Lawrenceville;

Now, therefore be it resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby celebrate the Youth Heritage Festival and the Young Preservationists' commitment to connecting young people to our city's history; and
Be it further resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends the Young Preservationists Association of Pittsburgh for their important work in shaping informed, responsible, and active future leaders.
