WHEREAS, Mother Wilma Barnett Smith Beauford is a native of Houston, Texas, the youngest of three, parented by wonderful and saved parents, the late Deacon General Barnett and the late Mother Clara Barnett Church was an integral part of Barnett Family life, being very active members of the historic Buck Street Memorial Church of God In Christ, in Houston, where Wilma began a life, characterized by educational achievement and active church involvement.; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Wilma Beauford graduated with honors from Prairie View A& M University with a B.A. in English, and later with M.Ed. and PhD degrees from the University of Pittsburgh in Counseling, Psychology and Administration respectively. After college in Texas, her marriage to Dr. Roland M. Smith produced two wonderful children, Kenneth R. Smith and Kathleen D. Smith, both born in Frankfurt, Germany, where the family lived for 4 years ; and,
WHEREAS, After arriving in Pittsburgh, and during her studies at Pitt, she joined Pentecostal Temple Church of God In Christ, under the Pastorship of Dr. Loran E. Mann. She engaged in an active community life as well, including past Board Member and Chair of the Education Committee of the NAACP, Chair of the International Service unit of the Links, and member of the Board of the Pittsburgh Pastoral Institute. She also serves on the Board of the Willa Johnson School of Bible and Ministry; and,
WHEREAS, The First Jurisdiction Western Pennsylvania has been the recipient of Dr. Beauford's organization, service and developmental efforts. She presently serves as the Dean of the Ministers and Missionary Alliance Institute, a position she held for over 15 years. Under the late Supervisor Mother Bernice Groce, she was appointed Vice-Chair of the Women's Department Licensure Board; and,
WHEREAS, In 2003,she was honored by Joy Ministries as a "Pioneer Woman." In 2007, at the COGIC International Convention, she was honored as an "Outstanding District Missionary, at...
