WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy was founded in 1996; and
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy works to restore, renew, revitalize and preserve the four great parks of Pittsburgh, namely Frick, Highland, Riverview and Schenley; and
WHEREAS, restoration efforts performed by the Conservancy are conducted with environmental sensitivity, respect for the parks' historic landscape design and the recreational needs of modern users; and
WHEREAS, the Conservancy has undertaken several showcase projects to make major improvements and to revitalize our city's green spaces; and
WHEREAS, the Conservancy offers a variety of public programming that helps visitors better utilize the parks; and
WHEREAS, the Conservancy trains educators through a one-week course and recruits volunteers for its EcoSteward Program; and
WHEREAS, the Conservancy is celebrating its 10th Anniversary with an open house on December 12, 2006, from 6-8 PM at the Schenley Park Visitor Center.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby commends and thanks the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy for its outstanding commitment to improving our urban parks and congratulates the Conservancy on its 10th Anniversary.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares December 12, 2006, "Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
