WHEREAS, founded in 1952, the Light of Life Rescue Mission is a critically important part of the City of Pittsburgh's service infrastructure, providing food, shelter, education, employment training, addiction recovery, and life coaching to hundreds of our most vulnerable residents; and
WHEREAS, with hundreds of millions of dollars of cuts to the Pennsylvania budget for public services such as assistance for the homeless, mental health care, child welfare, addiction recovery, and aid to people with disabilities, the work of Light of Life is more important than ever; and
WHEREAS, Light of Life works closely with other social service providers to amplify their impact in the community, partnering with Bethlehem Haven, Mercy Behavioral Health, North Side Christian Health Center, Allegheny County Jail, Action Housing, St. Vincent DePaul, the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Band, the Manchester-Bidwell Corporation, and others; and
WHEREAS, on Saturday, May 12 the Mission will hold their annual Walk for the Homeless with radio personalities and former Pittsburgh Steelers Tunch Illkin and Craig Wolfley "Tunch and Wolf"; and
WHEREAS, the annual walk brings hundreds of people to the North Shore and is followed by a day of food, entertainment, and celebration to support the work of Light of Life.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Light of Life Rescue Mission for their valuable work providing social services to the neediest residents of the City; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare May 12, 2012 to be "Light of Life Rescue Mission Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
