WHEREAS, Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails (LUPEC) was formed in 2001 as a private social club to celebrate strong women and strong drinks; and
WHEREAS, this March LUPEC celebrated their 10th anniversary with a week of events throughout the City; and
WHEREAS, LUPEC started out as a private social club, hosting parties for members but the organization soon grew into a public entity, the goal of which was to highlight some of the worlds' best cocktails while providing a bit of women's history to unsuspecting audiences; and
WHEREAS, LUPEC has honored some of Pittsburgh's most interesting women, from the region's first female mortician to two women who created the artwork for the world's two most popular sets of Tarot cards; and
WHEREAS, for the past five years LUPEC has focused their efforts on Women's History Month and told the stories of women few people have ever heard of but who have had a huge impact on the City.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor the efforts and achievements of Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare May 3, 2011 "Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
