WHEREAS, the Amen Corner is a prestigious organization which has been a Pittsburgh tradition since 1870 and whose purpose is to encourage camaraderie, fraternity and relationships amongst people of all walks of life ; and,
WHEREAS, Amen Corner instituted the David L. Lawrence Award for Community Service Leadership and Excellence in 2007 to honor an individual in the community who has exhibited leadership and led by example; and,
WHEREAS, this year's honoree is Robert Fragasso, President of Fragasso Financial Advisors, a graduate of Duquesne University and named one of the Top 100 Independent Investment Advisors nationally by Barron's Magazine and amongst the 100 Best Investment Advisors by The Best of the U.S., Inc. ; and,
WHEREAS, Bob Fragasso, an author of Starting Your Own Practice: The Independent Guide for Professional Service Providers, is on the Board of Animal Friends, the Board of LaRoche College , Advisory Board Chair for the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship ,Chairman -Elect of the Board of Governors of the Rivers Club, a past President of Amen Corner and President of Amen Corner Charities , which provides scholarship assistance to local students attending Southwestern Pennsylvania colleges and universities; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Amen Corner for establishing the David L. Lawrence Award for Community Service Leadership and Excellence and congratulates Robert Fragasso for being named the 2008 Honoree; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, September 25, 2008, to be "ROBERT FRAGASSO DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
