Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby recognize and commend Jacqueline L. Miles for her years of dedicated service to our youth with special needs and the Pittsburgh Public Schools. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council in the City of Pittsburgh declares today, May 13th, 2006 as Jacqueline L. Miles Day in the City.

Whereas, Ms. Jacqueline L. Miles is retiring from the Pittsburgh Public Schools after 36 years of dedicated service. Her educational services have been from 1970 to present; and
Whereas Ms. Miles attended Crescent Elementary School, Baxter middle and Westinghouse High School. She completed her undergraduate work in elementary and special education at Cheyney University of Pittsburgh and the University of Penn State; and
Whereas, Ms. Miles has always had a strong concern for children who require extra care. As a result her focus has been on children with special needs. She helps her students feel they can be successful. Confidence building is another concern of hers and she addresses it by working closely with parents, letting children know how important they are and by sharing some of her own experiences and feelings;
Whereas, in addition to teaching, Ms. Miles has been a Teacher Leader, a Parent Family Teacher (PFT) Building Representative, a Designated Responsible Teacher and a PFT Presenter for New Teacher Induction and Parent Family Involvement. She has also served on discipline committees, instructional cabinets and elementary grass roots committees while working with the Cheyney Alumni Association and the Local and National Association of Black School Educators.
Whereas, Ms. Miles is definitely a woman who wears many hats. As the oldest of four children she has always been available to provide encouragement to her sisters and her brother as well as her mother and friends. Ms. Miles, without a doubt is a beautiful person and is a true blessing to everyone that has had an opportunity to interact with her.
