WHEREAS, Robert “Jon” Hairston is a Pittsburgh native and a resident of the Beltzhoover neighborhood; and,
WHEREAS, Robert “Jon” Hairston studied Business Management at Penn State University and returned home to work in neighborhood community development in his neighborhood of Beltzhoover; and,
WHEREAS, Jon developed a strong passion for working with communities and with youth, he spent several years mentoring and educating young African-American males as the Program Director of One Small Step, a 21st Century Community Learning Center Program; and,
WHEREAS, Jon is currently employed by the City of Pittsburgh Department of Parks and Recreation as the Director of the Paulson Recreation Center in the City’s Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar neighborhood; and,
WHEREAS, Jon continues to mentor and provide recreational opportunities and leadership initiatives for the youth who live in the area; and,
WHEREAS, Jon and his staff are being honored for Outstanding Performance as a Recreation Center Director and his staff is also being honored for their work in reconnecting the Center with youth from the Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar neighborhood and creating a safe and youth-focused center; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Robert “Jon” Hairston for his years of dedicated service to Pittsburgh youth and families and city neighborhoods; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, May 11, 2017, to be “Robert “Jon” Hairston Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
