Whereas, the National Association of Women Business Owners is an organization representing the interests of all women entrepreneurs in all types of businesses. With 75 chapters across the country, the organization propels women into economic, social, and political spheres of power; and
Whereas, the Pittsburgh Chapter of NAWBO is aimed at helping women business owners through networking and learning opportunities; and
Whereas, we must acknowledge that women-owned businesses are the fastest growing segment of the U.S. economy despite their lack of growth in Pittsburgh; and
Whereas, the Pittsburgh Chapter of NAWBO, represented by Joanne Quinn-Smith, President, Debra Mason, President Elect, and Cynthia Otis, Public Relations Director, will host an event on September 20th and 21st with the grand theme of "Show Me the Money!" ; and
Whereas, Desma Reid Coleman, a respected speaker and prominent business owner in Detroit, is the featured speaker at the event. She will present "Positioning Yourself to Get Paid" and "Leveraging Supplier Diversity Initiatives to Increase Revenue"; and
Whereas, we recognize that the economic success of our region requires a significant contribution from women business owners and we hope the event will inspire those in attendance and create opportunities for women entrepreneurs in Pittsburgh; and

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare September 19, 2006 "Greater Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners Day" and extends its sincere appreciation to Joanne Quinn-Smith, President of NAWBO in Pittsburgh, and the many women business owners who belong to the organization and contribute to the prosperity of our region.
