WHEREAS, Joyce Munns has been a teacher in the Pittsburgh Public Schools for 36 years and is preparing to retire from the teaching profession,
WHEREAS, Joyce Munns is a graduate of Carlow College with an undergraduate degree and from the University of Pittsburgh with a Masters Degree in English,
WHEREAS, Joyce Munns has taught at Knoxville Junior High School, Allegheny High School, Langley High School and for the last 21 years at Taylor Allderdice High School and,
WHEREAS, Joyce Munns is one of the most respected teachers of English in the Pittsburgh School District, having been designated a nominee for TEACHER OF EXCELLENCE while teaching different levels and grades as well as the most rigorous AP English and,
WHEREAS, students continuously credit Joyce Munns as being the teacher that most motivated and influenced them and ,most importantly, best prepared them for college.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Joyce on her retirement from the teaching profession and further commends her for her years of outstanding professional accomplishment, and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, June 21, 2005, to be "Joyce Munns Day" here in the City of Pittsburgh.
