WHEREAS, volunteers who have stepped out of their familiar environments to meet needs not otherwise met through their service are a fundamental part of the community. Nabhi Christian Ministries, whose mission is to enhance impoverished communities by creating healthy environments that mentor, train and develop citizens of all ages recognizes the work and sacrifices of Pastor Stephen Niermann with their Community Service Leadership Award; and,
WHEREAS, Pastor Stephen Niermann, a native of Omaha, Nebraska, has served as Pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Pittsburgh since 1991. For the past 7 years, Pastor Niermann has been a dedicated volunteer of Nabhi Christian Ministries and helps organize special events and distribute new backpacks and schools supplies, winter coats and toys to children in Pittsburgh neighborhoods; and,
WHEREAS, Pastor Niermann received a Master of Divinity Degree from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis and shortly after, was called to serve in Pittsburgh where not only was he Pastor of Faith Lutheran Church but also of St. Thomas Lutheran Church. He has been an Air Force Chaplain, a founding member of Pittsburgh Lutheran Urban Ministries, Circuit Counselor in the Eastern District of the Lutheran Church, Pastoral Representative for the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Board Member of the East Liberty Health Care Center, a member of the Lincoln-Lemington Community Collaborative and currently serves as a Hospice Chaplain with Heartland Hospice; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Pastor Stephen Niermann for his dedicated work to improve the lives of others and congratulates him on receiving the Community Service Leadership Award from Nabhi Christian Ministries.
