Title: WHEREAS, Yom Ha'atzmaut or Israeli Independence Day, commemorates the declaration of independence of Israel in 1948; and, WHEREAS , David ben Gurion declared the establishment of the State of Israel when the British finally left the Land of Israel , thereby ending the Mandate on Palestine; and, WHEREAS, on that day, a provisional government was set up formalizing the establishment of the State of Israel and calling on neighboring Arabs to remain in the country and to live together in peace; and, WHEREAS, the declaration states that the State of Israel is based on the principles of justice and democracy and constitutes the national home for the Jewish People; and, WHEREAS, a celebration of Israel's independence is a concrete link between the State of Israel and Jewish people around the world ; and, WHEREAS, the United Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh will sponsor the celebration of Israel's 59th birthday with an event, ISRAEL COMES TO PITTSBURGH, on April 24, 20...

WHEREAS, a celebration of  Israel's independence is a concrete link between the State of Israel and Jewish people around the world ; and,
 
WHEREAS, the United Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh will sponsor the celebration of Israel's 59th birthday with an event, ISRAEL COMES TO PITTSBURGH, on April 24, 2007 from 4-9PM at Mellon Park , featuring American Jewish singer Noam Katz , an Israeli Bazaar and fun and food for the entire family.
 
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the 59th birthday of the State of Israel; and
 
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declares April 24, 2007, to be Yom Ha'atzmaut Day in the City of Pittsburgh.
