Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Department of Public Works, Division 5 for their commitment and hard work to District 2 and the City of Pittsburgh; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, June 19, 2012, to be “DPW Division 5 Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh Public Works 5th Division supports all of the neighborhoods in District 2 and includes 37 parks and 19 ball fields, the senior centers and monuments; and,
 
WHEREAS, there are 392 miles of roads that Division 5 is responsible for maintaining during all seasons; salting in the winter and cut, clean and fill in the summer; and,
 
WHEREAS, one example of the hard work the division has done throughout District 2 was on August 4th and 5th of 2010, the fifth Division and Redd Up crew completed a "Sheraden Blitz" where 8.35 tons of hot asphalt used for pothole repairs and Parson Street was paved and Stadium Street was prepped for paving by the in-house crew; the 5th Division helped remove 680 tons of debris and a total of 22 miles of streets were swept and flushed; and,  
 
WHEREAS, diligence and commitment to excellence has paved the way for open lines of communication between Council District 2, the community, and Division 5 and its leadership, resulting in cohesiveness and productivity within the neighborhoods of District 2;  and,
 
WHEREAS, after almost 46 years of service, we would like to recognize Richard Bombich who retired at the end of May, 2012; Mr. Bombich began as a Laborer with the City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works on September 10, 1966, became Foreman of the 1st Division in 1988 and retired as a Foreman in the 5th Division; and,
