Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Pittsburgh District and United Methodist Church as a whole for its work in ministry and welcomes everyone to the City of Pittsburgh. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that April 27 through May 7, 2004 be hereby declare "National United Methodist Convention Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh District of the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church is home to 51 United Methodist Churches in Allegheny County; and
 
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh District is a collection of very diverse churches, people and styles of worship that offer a multitude of services to the community.  There are roughly 21,000 members spread throughout urban and suburban areas; and
 
WHEREAS, the ministries, while geographically located in greater Pittsburgh, extend worldwide in scope.  As a global church connecting the world together, the mission focuses on creating disciples for Jesus Christ; and
 
WHEREAS, the General Conference is held every four years where United Methodists from all over the world gather to conduct official business; and
 
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh District of the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church will be holding the General Conference 2004 from April 27th through May 7th at the Convention Center in Downtown Pittsburgh where this year's theme is "Water Washed, Spirit Born"; and
 
WHEREAS, as host of this year's conference, the Pittsburgh District will provide greeters, site services, transportation, interpreters and other support for the estimated 5,000 people and nearly 1,000 delegates attending.
