Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby commend The Sprout Fund and the artists for their hard work and dedication to improving the image the young people have of the Pittsburgh Region; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday November 16, 2004 to be "Sprout Fund Public Art Day" here in the City of Pittsburgh.

      WHEREAS, The Sprout Fund, is a non-profit community organization that supports the innovative ideas of young people through modest grants for community projects.  Launched in August 2001, Sprout is a project of the Tides Center; and,
 
      WHEREAS, The Sprout Fund, improves the image of the Pittsburgh region by creating a culturally diverse and vibrant visual landscape with community murals through Sprout Public Art.  The program furthers the mission of the Sprout Fund to provide a vehicle to engage young talent in thinking creatively about innovative solutions that will help to shape a new culture and vision for the region; and,
 
WHEREAS, the concept of community engagement is central to Sprout's vision for site specific public art.  Through a collaborative process, artists and communities will develop enduring public art that enhances the urban landscape and considers the people of the community, their history, and their hopes for the future.
 
WHEREAS, during the summer of 2004 , Sprout Public Art created murals in nine communities: Central Northside, East Liberty, Eliza Furnace Trail, Lawrenceville (Butler Street), Lawrenceville (Penn Avenue), Perry South, Squirrel Hill, Strip District and the West End; and,
 
WHEREAS, during the months of September and October dedication ceremonies were held to formally present the murals to each community and acknowledge the artists for their contribution to the community; and,
