WHEREAS, Lawrenceville is a vibrant Pittsburgh neighborhood with a large and diverse business district serving both residents of Lawrenceville and attracting visitors throughout the city and region; and
WHEREAS, the idea of celebrating holidays in the business district began with the late Jay Bernard who sought to strengthen connections between Lawrenceville shops and the community in 1997; and
WHEREAS, the Joy of Cookies Cookie Tour evolved in 2000 to include tasting cookies as a unique holiday tradition; and
WHEREAS, the event is planned and coordinated by neighborhood businesses and volunteers, and receives support from Lawrenceville's Mainstreets program; and
WHEREAS, the Joy of Cookies Cookie Tour encourages people to come and explore the community and numerous diverse shops while sampling freshly baked cookies; and
WHEREAS, the Joy of Cookies Cookie Tour also includes a bake sale organized by the Lawrenceville Rotary to benefit community groups;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Joy of Cookies Cookie Tour as it celebrates its tenth anniversary; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, December 3, 2009, "Joy of Cookies Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
