Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Joy of Cookies Cookie Tour as it celebrates its tenth anniversary; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, December 3, 2009, “Joy of Cookies Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Lawrenceville is a vibrant Pittsburgh neighborhood with a large and diverse business district serving both residents of Lawrenceville and attracting visitors throughout the city and region; and
 
WHEREAS, the idea of celebrating holidays in the business district began with the late Jay Bernard who sought to strengthen connections between Lawrenceville shops and the community in 1997; and
 
WHEREAS, the Joy of Cookies Cookie Tour evolved in 2000 to include tasting cookies as a unique holiday tradition; and
 
WHEREAS, the event is planned and coordinated by neighborhood businesses and volunteers, and receives support from Lawrenceville's Mainstreets program; and
 
WHEREAS, the Joy of Cookies Cookie Tour encourages people to come and explore the community and numerous diverse shops while sampling freshly baked cookies; and
 
WHEREAS, the Joy of Cookies Cookie Tour also includes a bake sale organized by the Lawrenceville Rotary to benefit community groups;
