WHEREAS, The League of Young Voters Education Fund works to educate traditionally disenfranchised communities, including young people, minorities, women, members of the GLBT community, the physically challenged, and those living under the poverty line; and
WHEREAS, The League of Young Voters Education Fund provides the resources to train traditional non-voters in a combination of organizing and electoral strategy skills; and
WHEREAS, The League of Young Voters Education Fund will hold their 2nd Annual National Convention in Pittsburgh, August 4-7, 2005; and
WHEREAS, the conference will bring together 125 of the nation's young progressive leaders to discuss organizational development, coalition building, community assessment, and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, the local organizing committee consists of Khari Mosley, Julia Nagle, Nish Suvarnakar, Daniel Lavelle, Tony Lodico, Iysha Evelyn, Janis Williams, Mikhail Pappas, Pat Clark, Paul McKrell, Rob Frank, Jeanette Hickman, Eric Jester, and Gloria Forouzan.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh congratulates the League of Young Voters Education Fund on their accomplishments in promoting political participation and education and wishes them the best of luck on the upcoming conference; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares Friday, August 5, 2005, "League of Young Voters Education Fund Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
