WHEREAS, the Italian Heritage Society of America will celebrate its Twenty- First Annual Banquet on October 27, 2007; and
WHEREAS, the Italian Heritage Society has awarded 166 scholarships in the past 20 years, including 80 scholarships to students from the Clelian Heights School for Exceptional Children; and
WHEREAS, the Italian Heritage Society continues to raise money for scholarships for children from the Clelian Heights School, thereby promoting and rewarding academic excellence within our community; and
WHEREAS, the Italian Heritage Society has honored 209 Italian-Americans for outstanding achievements in their respective fields, including music, medicine, law, government, education, humanities, labor and sports; and
WHEREAS, this year the Italian Heritage Society will honor the following Italian-Americans within our community for their exceptional achievement within their fields:

· Albert P. Vento
· Fred Cecchini
· Cullen Diethorn
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes the contribution that the Italian Heritage Society of America makes to our community through the promotion and recognition of excellence in both the academic and professional spheres; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares October 27, 2007 "Italian Heritage Society of America Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
