WHEREAS, the Ateleta Women were organized 65 years ago in the Bloomfield neighborhood of the City of Pittsburgh by women from Ateleta, Abruzzi, Italy; and
WHEREAS, the Ateleta Women organized to better enable them to share with each other and enrich their Italian heritage on American soil; and
WHEREAS, for the past 65 years, the Ateleta Women have maintained a connection with their ancestral town of origin, Ateleta, Italy; and
WHEREAS, the Ateleta Women have successfully maintained ties with their old country and town by virtue of their excellent organizational skills, their strength of character and the compelling warmth of their Italian heritage; and
WHEREAS, due to the efforts of the Ateleta Women, their Italian heritage has been perpetuated for all Pittsburghers to enjoy; and
WHEREAS, under the strong leadership of the Ateleta Women, including President Karen Cercone, Officers Romilda Sebastian, Yolanda Casiato, Jean Ricci, Iva Rossi, Lisa Cupelli and Anna Buccigrossi, Trustees Mary Allen, Tina LeDonne, Lydia LeDonne, Vanessa Turpin, Linda Vacca, and Janet Cercone Scullion, and Advisory Board Members Angela Mascerelli and Victoria LeDonne, the Ateleta Women have continued to thrive; and
WHEREAS, the Ateleta Women will celebrate their 65th Anniversary on April 23, 2006 at a gala celebration at Lombardozzi's Restaurant.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh salutes the Pittsburgh area Ateleta Women for their 65 year history of maintaining a strong connection with their town of origin, Ateleta, Italy, and for perpetuating Italian traditions and customs on Pittsburgh soil; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares April 23, 2006 "Ateleta Women Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
