Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Jeff Goldblum for all of his accomplishments on and off the silver screen; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday July 13, 2004, "Jeff Goldblum Day" here in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Jeff Goldblum grew up in the Pittsburgh suburb of West Homestead and graduated from West Mifflin High School, at the age of 17, he continued his acting education at the prestigious Neighborhood Playhouse under the guidance of legendary acting coach Sanford Meisner; and,
 
WHEREAS, in less than a year Joe Papp cast him in the Broadway hit, Two Gentlemen of Verona.  While in New York, Jeff had his first film audition and was cast as the terrifying rapist in "Death Wish."  In contrast to that role the very next week Robert Altman cast him in the role as the 21 year old boy wonder in "California Split," and also asked him to play the mysterious biker/magician in "Nashville".  Thus, beginning his stellar feature film-acting career; and,
 
WHEREAS, a favorite of audiences and critics alike, Jeff Goldblum has starred in three of the fifteen highest grossing films of all time.  These roles include the unconventional scientist in Steven Spielberg's "Jurassic Park", "The Lost World: Jurassic Park II" and "Independence Day"; and,
 
WHEREAS, Jeff has also appeared in such movies as "The Big Chill," "Holy Man," Woody Allen's "Annie Hall," "The Fly," and "Deep Cover" just to name few; and,
 
WHEREAS, aside from acting Jeff takes pride in his abilities as a director.  He was nominated for an Academy Award for his Live Short Action Film "Little Surprises."  He also served as a member of the jury at the 1999 Cannes Film Festival; and,
 
WHEREAS, despite his fame and fortune, Jeff Goldblum has always remembered with pride, his hometown and as such serves as an ambassador for Pittsburgh.
