Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby thanks the Greater Pittsburgh Council of the Boy Scouts of America for organizing the Hike and commends them for promoting tolerance and understanding in the community.

WHEREAS, the mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law; and
 
WHEREAS, one of the twelve virtues of Scout Law is Reverence; and
 
WHEREAS, the Greater Pittsburgh Council of the Boy Scouts of America will host a Ten Commandment Hike to celebrate the diverse religious character of the City of Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, this hike will emphasize the importance of religious tolerance for Scouts as well as the larger community; and
 
WHEREAS, during the Hike the Scouts will visit ten different places of worship: Jewish, Byzantine Catholic, Episcopalian, Lutheran, Roman Catholic, Baptist, Christian Scientist, Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Unitarian, and Methodist; and
 
WHEREAS, the Hike is dedicated to educating the Scouts and other hikers about the shared beliefs of many different faiths that are celebrated in the City; and
 
WHEREAS, the Ten Commandment Hike will take place on November 24, 2006, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Rodef Shalom Synagogue, located at the corner of Fifth and Morewood Avenues.
