WHEREAS, on Thursday, October 2, 2008, The Forbes Funds will celebrate its 25th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, The Forbes Funds was established in 1982 in order to assist nonprofit organizations facing short term financial emergencies; and
WHEREAS, in the late 1980s, The Forbes Funds began to shift its focus toward long-term capacity building among nonprofits; and
WHEREAS, beginning in 2001, The Forbes Funds adopted a three-part strategy to support the nonprofit sector, consisting of the Copeland Fund for Nonprofit Management, its grantmaking fund, the Tropman Fund for Nonprofit Research, to support and enhance applied research in the nonprofit sector, and the Wishart Fund for Nonprofit Leadership, to encourage sector leadership and pioneering; and
WHEREAS, The Forbes Funds aims to help nonprofits operate efficiently and attain long-term independence by developing their capacities; and
WHEREAS, The Forbes Funds enables nonprofits to effectively achieve their goals by promoting knowledgeable and skilled leadership, and by enhancing their abilities to govern, plan, and manage themselves.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh acknowledges and celebrates the Forbes Funds' continuing support for and advancement of the nonprofit sector; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares Thursday, October 2, 2008, "The Forbes Funds Day" in the City of Pittsburgh, in celebration of its 25th anniversary.
