WHEREAS, Beirut Lebanon has been named the No. 1 international food destination and Our Lady of Victory Maronite Catholic Church is bringing Beirut’s culinary paradise to Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, the Lebanese-American community of Our Lady of Victory Maronite Catholic Church, located at 1000 Lindsay Road in Carnegie, is holding its annual Pittsburgh Lebanese Food Festival Friday through Sunday, September 9 - 11th, 2016; and,
WHEREAS, Lebanon's Maronites make up the largest Christian community in the country with approximately 3 million people of Lebanese descent in America today; and,
WHEREAS, Lebanese Americans are deeply rooted in their faith, and family is at the core of Lebanese social identity. Lebanese Americans are known for their elaborate and warm hospitality, and it is considered rude not to offer food and drink to a guest; and,
WHEREAS, Our Lady of Victory was the first Lebanese Maronite Catholic Church in Pittsburgh, established in the lower Hill District in November of 1902. In 1952, their first church building was constructed on Dunster Avenue in Brookline, and they relocated in 1997to the former Nixon Elementary School in Scott where they serve over 200 registered parishioners and many guests; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Lebanese-American community of Our Lady of Victory Maronite Catholic Church for their commitment to family and faith and serving the residents of the City of Pittsburgh; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, September 9-11, 2016, to be “Lebanese-American Days” in the City of Pittsburgh.
