WHEREAS, on June 24th, 2010, Penelope Bauer won the girls' National Marbles Tournament; and
WHEREAS, Allegheny County has had 37 national champions in the National Marbles Tournament since it began 87 years ago; and
WHEREAS, more tournament winners are from Allegheny County than any other region in the country; and
WHEREAS, under the guidance of her coaches, Ms. Bauer defeated 17 other girls to claim the title; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Bauer received a $2,000 college scholarship for her achievement, as well as a trip back to Wildwood, New Jersey for her induction into the Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, a resident of Bloomfield, Ms. Bauer is a student at the St. John Neumann Regional Catholic School in Lawrenceville; and
WHERAS, Ms. Bauer's older sister, Alexandra, won the championship in 2007.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh congratulates Penelope Bauer on her win of the girls' national championship at the 87th National Marbles Tournament and commends her for commitment to the sport and upholding the tradition of Allegheny County; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares July 13, 2010, "Penelope Bauer Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
