Title: WHEREAS, Women Who Rock, founded by Melinda Colaizzi, is dedicated to empowering women, supporting women in music, and advocating for women's health; and,

WHEREAS, Women Who Rock, founded by Melinda Colaizzi, is dedicated to empowering women, supporting women in music, and advocating for women's health; and,

WHEREAS, after being in the music industry for over 15 years personally experiencing the gender disparity in the field and then finding herself as a caretaker and advocate during her mother's battle with cancer, Melinda brainstormed the idea of Women Who Rock with a mission of rocking the future of healthcare for all women; and,

WHEREAS, through a wide range of initiatives, including pop-up events, global campaigns, and flagship benefit concerts, Women Who Rock strive to amplify women's voices and raise funds for women's health issues; and,

WHEREAS, the Women Who Rock benefit concerts support understudied and underfunded women's health research at Magee-Women's Research Institute, based in Pittsburgh, the nation's first and largest research institute dedicated solely to life-saving women's health research and reproductive biology. The benefit concerts are 100% female-fronted headliners and have included Sheila E., Jordin Sparks, Ann Wilson of Heart, and Rita Wilson, to name a few; and,

WHEREAS, this year's benefit concert features Melissa Etheridge at Stage AE in Pittsburgh on August 28 presented by Gibson Gives, whose mission is to advance musicians through music education, and health and wellness initiatives worldwide. To date, Women Who Rock have helped raise over $1,000,000 in funds and awareness for Magee-Women's Research Institute; and,

WHEREAS, Women Who Rock also has line of signature apparel and accessories that serve as a symbol of empowerment and solidarity while supporting the mission of the organization; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Melinda Colaizzi and Women Who Rock and commend them for their service to women and women's health issues; and,
