Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, March 27, 2012, to be “Director Robert Stephany Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Mr. Robert Stephany is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a major in Urban Studies and Community Development and has been the Director of the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) where he not only served as an influential member of the Mayor's Economic Development staff, but is also nationally recognized as an expert in sustainable urban revitalization; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Stephany first caught the attention of city leaders by way of his impressive record in East Liberty, where he worked for eight years as director of real estate development and commercial development for the neighborhood's community development organization; and,
WHEREAS, Under Mr. Stephany's direction, the URA closed nearly 1300 grants and loans totaling more than $189 million, $114 million was put towards housing and $75 million for economic development. Additionally, the direct investment of $87 million in economic development projects leveraged $600 million in total project costs that created 3,716 jobs; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Stephany's accomplishments include high-profile projects such as Bakery Square in East Liberty, the Hill District Master Planning process, Southside works, the residential expansion at Summerset at Frick Park in Squirrel Hill, general housing and business expansion in East Liberty, including Target, and the 3.2-acre South Shore Riverfront Park on the city's Southside in District 2; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Stephany has also served as part of the White House Start-Up America team and was a panelist for numerous University discussions and symposiums ; and,
WHEREAS, not only is Mr. Stephany a dedicated worker and extremely important asset to the City of Pittsburgh, but he is a wonderful family man who resides in the Lawrenceville area of the City with his wife Molly and three sons; and,
