Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, June 19, 2012 to be “Janice Parks Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on June 26 from 6-9pm, the Young Men & Women's African Heritage Association Helpful Hands Gala will be hosting a retirement celebration in honor of co-founder and Executive Director Janice Parks at the Pittsburgh Aviary; and,  
 
WHEREAS, the mission of  the Young Men and Women's African Heritage Association  is to provide the best quality services to children and families with a particular focus on the needs of children of African heritage and their families; and,
 
WHEREAS, co-founder and Executive Director  Janice Parks has offered her helpful hands to serve Allegheny County, the City of Pittsburgh and the North side community for the past 18 years; and,
 
WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh acknowledges her strength as a community leader and an agent of social change who has articulated the real demands of children, youth and families since the nineties, having taken the principle directive of strength based support to ensure that those is need are continuously a priority; and,
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Janice Parks has accepted requests to lead workshop presentations in various locations including the University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University; and,     
 
WHEREAS, Janice Park's arts education expertise has received the recognition from the Americans for the Arts Conference in Seattle, Washington, and she has also had speaking engagements on the issue of community-based art initiatives at the Mid-Atlantic Network of Youth Conference in Baltimore, Maryland;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, June 19, 2012 to be "Janice Parks Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
