Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor Calliope's 50th anniversary and recognizes of iextraordinary contributions to the cultural fabric of our city over the past five decades. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare March 12, 2026 to be "Calliope Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Calliope: The Pittsburgh Folk Music Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting, and presenting traditional and contemporary folk music in the Pittsburgh region; and

 

WHEREAS, since its founding in 1976, Calliope has enriched the cultural life of the City of Pittsburgh by presenting concerts, workshops, and educational programs that celebrate folk traditions from around the world; and

 

WHEREAS, Calliope’s programs bring together artists and audiences of all ages, fostering community, cultural exchange, and appreciation for the storytelling and musical traditions that connect generations; and

 

WHEREAS, through its long-standing concert series, educational programs, and community engagement events, Calliope has supported countless local, regional and touring musicians and provided opportunities for Pittsburgh residents to experience and participate in folk music; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2026 Calliope celebrates five decades of strengthening Pittsburgh’s vibrant arts community and continuing its mission to keep folk music alive and accessible;
